On 31DEC07, Marine Corps officials announced that Staff Sergeant Frank Wuterich and First Lieutenant Andrew Grayson will be sent to court-martial for their involvement in the killing of 24 Iraqi civilians in Haditha.
- SSgt Wuterich will be tried for voluntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, obstruction of justice, and dereliction of duty.
- 1stLt Grayson will be tried for obstructing justice, false official statement, and fraudulently attempting to get out of the Marine Corps.
The Article 32 investigation of SSgt Wuterich ended in September 2007. During his final statements, SSgt Wuterich expressed his remorse for the deaths of the Iraqi civilians. The investigating officer, LtCol Paul Ware, recommended SSgt Wuterich not be tried on charges of unpremeditated murder.
1stLt Grayson was offered a plea deal, which he rejected.

All charges against SSgt Wuterich should be dropped. He is a good Marine who looked after the safety and security of his men. He should be commended and properly recognized for proceeding in accordance with his Marine training and keeping his men safe.
