Haditha Update: Justin Sharratt Sues Congressman John Murtha

The latest news from the Haditha cases involves former Marine Justin Sharratt suing Congressman John Murtha.  Sharratt was one of the Marines involved in the killing of 24 civilians in Haditha, Iraq.

The original investigation into Sharratt’s conduct resulted in a recommendation of no charges.  In August 2007, the commanding general, Gen Mattis, made the decision not to bring charges against Sharratt.

Sharratt has sued Murtha for, inter alia, slander per se, invasion of privacy, intentional infliction of emotional distress,

Murtha’s statements that Sharratt and his Haditha comrades were “cold-blooded murderers” and “massacred” innocent civilians have been republished, re-broadcast and reproduced by countless third parties throughout the world, including throughout the Western District of Pennsylvania, where Sharratt resides.
