USC Football Update: Freshman Kristopher O’Dowd Starting Center

Kristoffer O'DowdKristofer O’Dowd is the first true freshman to ever start at center for USC, and is only the third lineman to ever start as a freshman in Troy. The other two were Travis Claridge and Brad Budde. O’Dowd took over duties as center after Matt Spanos was injured during practice.

O’Dowd had a great game against Idaho. He was the only Trojan who did not rest for a single offensive play.

“I think this was the perfect setting for him to break himself in,” Booty said. “Because if Spanos doesn’t come back anytime soon, (O’Dowd) might go a full year. It was really big for him to get out there tonight and get things started.”

The quarterback-center exchanges were “perfect,” said Booty, as the two did not bungle a snap.
