LSU Florida Tebow Will Play For Gators

The game of this Saturday is LSU v. Florida.  The latest news indicates Tim Tebow will start for the Gators.

If he’s got a 100 percent clean bill of health and the phalanx of involved parties agrees he’s fine (coach Urban Meyer said there were 12 people in the room Monday to discuss Tebow’s concussion recovery), do it. No more interested party than Bob Tebow, Tim’s father, said that if his son were cleared to play — and he stressed Thursday afternoon that the decision has not been made — he would not spend Saturday wincing at Tim’s high-impact playing style.

Dreadnaught prediction: If Tebow plays Florida wins, if Tebow is out LSU gets the win. bodog has LSU by 8 points.

USC No 4 In AP Preseason Top 25

Although Florida, with returning QB Tim Tebow, made history by becoming the most overwhelming preseason No. 1 in the history of the AP poll, edging out USC in the 2007 preseason AP.  Look out for a Stanford-like letdown Gators.  The Gators are followed by Texas, Oklahoma, USC, and Bama.

Florida Gator Football Names USC Team Of The Decade

With the best college football player in the nation, Tim Tebow, 2 BCS championships in 2006 and 2008, and former Trojan Emmanuel Moody, it is hard to argue that Florida is not the team of the decade.  But according to Gator Bait.net USC is the team of the decade,

Seriously, though, USC is the team of the decade. The Trojans are 93-22 to Florida’s 87-31 through the first nine years of the 21st century, a sizable difference. You can point out the weakness of the Pac-10 all you want, but it is much harder to explain away the slew of top-rated recruiting classes and constant supply of high NFL draft picks USC has produced to back up its record.
The Trojans have finished fourth or higher in the final Associated Press poll for seven consecutive seasons. The Gators have finished among the top 10 only four times in the decade.
The Trojans were unranked in 2000 and 2001, spanning the end of the Paul Hackett era and the beginning of Pete Carroll‘s. The Gators were unranked in 2002 and 2004, Zook’s first and last years.
The Trojans have won six of their last seven bowl games and are 6-2 overall for the decade. The Gators have won three of four bowl games under Meyer but were 1-4 from 2000 to 2004.
The Trojans won 34 in a row from 2003 to 2005, a streak that ended with a BCS title loss to Texas in one of the most exciting games ever played. The Gators’ longest winning streak is 11, a number that would expand to 25 if they went undefeated this season.
Florida’s trump card over USC would be its three national championships, a difference that would mean more if the rules of the BCS game had not changed significantly within the decade. USC, which destroyed Oklahoma to win the 2004 championship, would have played in the 2003 title tilt with the same BCS formula in use today. Instead, the Trojans sat out even though they were ranked No. 1 in both polls and would have been favored over championship-game combatants Oklahoma or LSU.
On the surface, the USC-Florida question resembles the great Atlanta Braves-New York Yankees debate in the 1990s. Trust me, nothing irritated Marty Cohen more than hearing Braves fans or announcers touting them as the team of the 1990s when they won only one World Series to the Yankees’ three. The Atlanta argument: the Braves made the playoffs eight straight times from 1991 to 1999 (the ’94 season was canceled), while the Yankees’ first postseason trip was 1995.

USC Football Recruiting: USC Finishes National Signing Day At No. 3

At the end of National Signing Day 2009, USC finishes the day ranked No. 3 by rivals.com.  The Trojans finished just behind Alabama and LSU.  SC had the 2nd highest average recruit ranking with a 3.9, bested only by Florida with a 3.94.

The Trojans did lose out to Notre Dame when Manti Te’o became a Domer.

The Men of Troy did land the No. 1 quarterback Matt Barkley.

ESPN Ranks The Most Prestigious College Football Programs Of All Time

ESPN has devised a system to determine the most prestigious college-football programs of all time.  The ESPN system begins with the 1936 season and awards points for national titles, major bowls, Heisman winners, bowl wins, conference records, and top-5 finishes in the AP poll.  The system also penalizes teams for postseason bans, probation, and television bans.

Here at Dreadnaught we ranked the Top Ten College Football Programs of All Time.  ESPN was a little more ambitious ranking all 119 teams.

ESPN has released the Notables outside the Top 25.  Some items of note: Vanderbilt is the worst, Duke comes in just below VaTech at 38th and 37th respectively, and Pac-10 rivals Cal and Stanford are ranked 43rd and 44th.  Note: Stanford is one of the 11 teams with a mascot not ending with the letter “s.”

Numbers 21-119 include Auburn, 1980’s power Colorado, and Pitt at 27th.

Numbers 16-20 include the Bruins of UCLA, and Washington from the Pac-10, and a team from Texas.

Trivia About Top 25 College Football Teams

From Brian Hood at bleacher report comes a great post containing  little-known facts about the to25 college football teams:

No. 1 Georgia: Before the Bulldog became Georgia’s now famous mascot, their first unofficial mascot was a goat.  That’s right—when Georgia played its first intercollegiate game against Auburn in 1892, they introduced the ferocious goat as their lucky charm.

No. 2 USC: A recent tradition at USC is if you want to wear the number 55 at USC, you’re going to have to earn it.  Typically regarded as the anchor of the defense, the number cannot be picked by a player, but must be assigned by the head coach.

SEC Complaining About The BCS Before The Season Starts

Is the SEC already complaining about the BCS?  It looks like it,

Say Southern California goes 12-0. Say Florida, Auburn or Georgia finishes 11-2 with an SEC championship. Those teams’ schedules are much harsher then Ohio State’s slate. The conference in which they play is projected to be much tougher than the Big Ten.

Fastest Player In College Football: Florida Gator Jeff Demps

Previously on Dreadnaught, it was reported that Trindon Holliday of LSU was the fastest player in the history of college football.  He did not hold that title for long.  Holliday is no longer the fastest player in the SEC.

Jeff Demps from South Lake H.S. (FL) recently ran a 10.01 in the 100 meters.  Demps broke the high-school record, with was 10.08.  Demps is a member of the 2008 recruiting class – raked as the #4 athlete by Scouts, Inc. – and has signed with Florida.  Demps is a very versatile and the Gators may use him at running back, wide receiver, or cornerback.

It was a good run while it lasted LSU fan.

LSU Football: Trindon Holliday Fastest Player In College Football History

The defending national champions down in Baton Rouge are touting their junior wide receiver as the fastest player in the history of college football. They may be right Trindon Holliday , is as fast as they come. Holliday ran a 10.02 in the 100 m and he ran a 6.78 in the 60 m. The video below shows that run.

You decide if he is the fastest in the history of college football. He does have a good argument.

College Football: Number 1 LSU Falls to Kentucky

No it is not basketball season. The top-ranked LSU Tigers lose in overtime to the Wildcats of Kentucky. In the interest of full disclosure, yojoe is a fan of the USC Trojans. That bing said, there is so much parity in college football this year having a loss does not mean a team is not one of the best in the nation. LSU is a great team. We will not have an undefeated national champion this year. If this year does not show the problems with the BCS no season will.

College Football: Who Is No. 1 – More Votes For LSU, USC Retains No. 1 Position

As predicted here, the LSU Tigers gained ground on the Trojans of Southern Cal in the  latest AP Top 25 poll. The No. 2 Tigers took 19 first-place votes from the Men of Troy.

The Trojans will extend their lead after a win against Nebraska. The Cornhuskers were not that impressive in a 20-17 win over Wake Forest.

LSU Football: Making a Good Case for Number 1 Ranking by Crushing Va Tech

Being a Trojan fan, this is extraordinarily difficult to say, but LSU may deserve to be ranked number one in the nation. The LSU Tigers have looked absolutely unstoppable against the Hokies of Va Tech.

The LSU defense lead by Glen Dorsey has smothered Va Tech. The offense is dominant, rotating Flynn and Perrilloux the way Florida rotated Leak and Tebow. Early Doucet also looked very impressive. Final score

• Va Tech – 7

This may not be  great news for Tiger fans.  With Lloyd Carr floundering in Ann Arbor, the Wolverines will be in search of a new coach and Les Miles did play there, and idolizes Bo.

College Football: Week 2 LSU v. Va. Tech. The Game of the Week

Virginia Tech is the golden child of the media, because of the senseless murders that occurred on their campus this year. Our hearts go out to the victims of that tragedy. That being said.

There is no way the Hokies (whatever that is) can stop the crushing defense of LSU. Headed by Glen Dorsey the Tigers will roll Va. Tech.
