Weis is now backing away from the reckless comments he made about Coach Carroll.

Weis later claimed his comments were meant to be general statements about false Internet rumors and their impact on coaches’ lives.

 

These are the statements that Weis make about Coach Carroll,

“Let me ask you this question: You guys know about things that go on in different places. Was I living with a grad student in Malibu, or was I living with my wife in my house? You could bet that if I were living with a grad student here in South Bend, it would be national news.

“He’s doing it in Malibu and it’s not national news. What’s the difference? I don’t understand. Why is it OK for one guy to do things like that, but for me, I’m scrutinized when I swear. I’m sorry for swearing; absolve my sins.”

As mentioned on Dreadnaught here, here, here, here, and here, Charlie Weis must be fired.  Charlie lost today to UConn.  Yes, he lost to Navy and UConn in the same year.  Charlie, what happened to the the “decided schematic advantage“?

Wait, maybe you were misquoted.  You intended to say that with you as head coach, Notre Dame would have a “decided schematic disadvantage.”  That is what they have.  Take your cash, your FUPA, your barely-.500 winning percentage,  and your condescending attitude and go back to Jersey.  You are a joke!

Pitt Over Notre Dame: Another Nail In Charlie Weis’s Coffin

Charlie Weis is on his way out at Notre Dame.  Loss last week to Navy.  Now a loss to Pitt.  As has been called on here, here, here, and here, Notre Dame must replace Charlie Weis.

Navy Over Notre Dame

Charlie Weis made history in 2007 by losing to Navy for the first time in 44 years.  He did it again today by losing to Navy  23 – 21.

This takes Notre Dame out of the BCS, with their third loss of the season.

This should increase the calls for Charlie Weis to be fired.  As mentioned here, here, and, here, Notre Dame needs a new coach.

Another note on the game, specifically on the coverage by NBC, the praise for Jimmy Clausen is getting worse every game.  Praising Clausen for his ability to make comeback wins in the 4th quarter is more of an indictment of Notre Dame.  They are losing for most of the quarters they play.  That is not a good thing.

The Trojans get another victory over Notre Dame with a final score of  34-27.  The standout player for USC was tight end Anthony McCoy, with 5 receptions for 153 yards.

If you want to know what is wrong with Charlie Weis, one need only to listen to the comments he made coming off the field.

We ran a combination route where Golden got doubled, which we thought he would, over on the right-hand side.  He did, over on the right-hand side.  We were going to to to a high-low or to the left and when Duval came out of the break he slipped coming out of the break. He was open, but he slipped, slipped, slipped coming out of the route.

Translation:

I am a great coach.  I made the correct call.  I had an unbeatable scheme.  It was all Duval Kamara’s fault.

Pathetic.  Be a head coach.  Take responsibility, don’t blame a player.  Notre Dame deserves a better coach than Charlie Weis.

Charlie Weis Claims Moral Victory After Loss To USC

Note Dame coach, Charlie “I Looked at Myself and Saw a Disaster” Weis clamed the 2009 loss to USC was a moral victory.  Irish fans have to understand that Weis can not turn this team around in just five seasons, despite the fact that his team will, in “every game . . . have a decided schematic advantage.”  You must understand, he is suffering from the poor recruiting done by Ty Willingham.

Again, you can not expect Weis to turn the program around in just five seasons.  It has taken a number of head coaches to get their teams to national championships.  Nick Saban did it in his 4th season, Pete Carroll did it in his 3rd season, Bob Stoops did it in his 2nd season, and Urban Meyer did it in his 2nd season.  Well, those are all less than the five seasons Weis has had, but it is different for Weis.  Not sure how it is different, but it is.

It can not be Charlie Weis’s fault, he is just too great of a coach.  Remember Charlie Weis making history last season by losing to Navy for the first time in 44 years.  That was also Willingham’s fault.  Don’t blame Weis.

Charlie Weis Says USC Notre Dame Will Be Big Story

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP)—Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis gathered his players after the final practice before the 25th-ranked Fighting Irish face No. 6 USC on Saturday and made a prediction.

“I said, ‘Saturday night, fellas, you’re going to be the lead story in the country one way or another. You’re going to be. So which lead story do you want to be?”’

The storyline he’d probably like to see most is Jimmy Clausen having the game of his life to beat the Trojans, ending a record seven-game losing streak by the Irish to USC to become a leading Heisman Trophy candidate. The one he’d like to see least? Another USC blowout, putting his job in jeopardy.

Dreadnaught prediction: USC by 10.

It will not be the defense, it will not be the history, it will not be the running game or wether when USC plays Notre Dame.  The only comparison that will matter is the goldenness of the quarterbacks for the teams.  While Jimmy Clausen claims to be the golden boy from SoCal.   the photographs clearly demonstrate that Matt Barkley is much more golden.

USC No 4 In AP Preseason Top 25

Although Florida, with returning QB Tim Tebow, made history by becoming the most overwhelming preseason No. 1 in the history of the AP poll, edging out USC in the 2007 preseason AP.  Look out for a Stanford-like letdown Gators.  The Gators are followed by Texas, Oklahoma, USC, and Bama.

USC Football Recruiting: USC Finishes National Signing Day At No. 3

At the end of National Signing Day 2009, USC finishes the day ranked No. 3 by rivals.com.  The Trojans finished just behind Alabama and LSU.  SC had the 2nd highest average recruit ranking with a 3.9, bested only by Florida with a 3.94.

The Trojans did lose out to Notre Dame when Manti Te’o became a Domer.

The Men of Troy did land the No. 1 quarterback Matt Barkley.

ESPN Ranks The Most Prestigious College Football Programs Of All Time

ESPN has devised a system to determine the most prestigious college-football programs of all time.  The ESPN system begins with the 1936 season and awards points for national titles, major bowls, Heisman winners, bowl wins, conference records, and top-5 finishes in the AP poll.  The system also penalizes teams for postseason bans, probation, and television bans.

Here at Dreadnaught we ranked the Top Ten College Football Programs of All Time.  ESPN was a little more ambitious ranking all 119 teams.

ESPN has released the Notables outside the Top 25.  Some items of note: Vanderbilt is the worst, Duke comes in just below VaTech at 38th and 37th respectively, and Pac-10 rivals Cal and Stanford are ranked 43rd and 44th.  Note: Stanford is one of the 11 teams with a mascot not ending with the letter “s.”

Numbers 21-119 include Auburn, 1980’s power Colorado, and Pitt at 27th.

Numbers 16-20 include the Bruins of UCLA, and Washington from the Pac-10, and a team from Texas.

2009 BCS Championship Game Final Score

With tonight’s win over Oklahoma, the Florida Gators may take take their place among the top ten college football programs of all time, Oklahoma is already #4.

The final score was Florida over Oklahoma 24-14.  This like the Texas Ohio State game was lower scoring that many thought.

Florida Gator, and the fastest player in college football, Jeff Demps had a big game with Percy Harvin recovering from a sprained right ankle. But Harvin did not seem to be hampered by the injury.

Florida just could not be stopped in the 4th quarter.  Great game, and both teams should take pride in the accomplishments they achieved this season.

Bob Stoops has not helped to shake the Chokelahoma title, after losing in BCS games, 2004 L – Sugar, 2005 L – Orange, 2007 L – Fiesta, 2008 L – Fiesta and tonight to Florida.

Former Trojan, Emmanuel Moody, had 1 carry for the Gators.

Notre Dame To Lose Tenth Bowl Game Against Hawaii

The Fighting Irish will try to avoid losing their tenth straight bowl game against Hawaii.

The last time Notre Dame won a bowl game was the Cotton Bowl against Texas A&M in 1994, then the losses started:

• 1996 L, 26-31 – Florida State – Orange Bowl
• 1997 L, 9-27 – LSU – Independence Bowl

P.S. This is why I do not bet on sports.  I must eat my words.  Notre Dame had a great game, dominating the entire game.  Jimmy Clausen threw for 401 yards, and the Irish dominated 49-21.  An early Christmas gift for ND fans.  Congratulations!

Notre Dame Needs To Fire Charlie Weis

I have made my case for Notre Dame firing Coach Charlie Weis based not on his coaching performance, but on the poor example he sets for his players.  That is not to say that he has not performed poorly on the field, e.g., amassing 9 total yards in the first half against USC does not make one an offensive genius.

Here is a sample of what others are saying about Coach Weis:

• Weis, on the other hand, was a successful NFL assistant coach for several seasons with the New York Jets and New England Patriots. But after a promising first season at Notre Dame, he has since shown himself mostly incapable of coaxing college players to perform at a level that resembles anything close to the sum of their parts.
• If this was Weis’ death rattle, it was stinging. Notre Dame was outgained 449-91.
• The other significant number to consider: .571, Weis’ winning percentage at Notre Dame through four seasons following the loss to the fifth-ranked Trojans. That officially slides him below Bob Davie (.583) and Tyrone Willingham (.583) in the lineup of Irish coaches.
• The offensive guru now puts his team at a decided schematic disadvantage every time it takes the field.
• This is the worst loss of Weis’s tenure, and probably the worst loss of the last 15 years for the school. I don’t remember a loss by Bob Davie or Ty Willingham being anywhere near this bad.
• That would leave Weis at 28-21 in four years with Notre Dame, not far off from Willingham’s 21-16 in three seasons.
• It’s time for some new faces to lead this group, and you can start on that request yesterday, please.
• After 4 years, it’s obvious that he cannot develop talent, he cannot properly motivate or inspire his players, and sadly, he can’t even call plays very well anymore.

It is not looking good for Charlie “I Looked at Myself and Saw a Disaster” Weis.

Why Charlie Weis Is Loathsome And The Irish Deserve Better

Any reader of Dreadnaught knows this is not a Notre Dame blog.  The Men of Troy are my team.  Thus, if you are a Domer you may want read this post with that in mind.  But, be it known, I have nothing but respect for Notre Dame fans.  I have been to South Bend and watched games at the Coliseum and without exception found the Irish fans to be knowledgeable, humble in victory, and sportsmanlike in defeat.

You deserve a better coach, and much better person than Charlie Weis.  He is a petulant Jersey mall rat and wannabe tough guy.

His overall record is 28-21, with only 8 victories with teams that finished the seasons with records better than .500.

He brags of his vast football acumen and his dominance with the Patriots in the NFL. I am convinced that my Bulldog Dreadnought could win in the NFL with Bill Belichick and Tom Brady.  And Dreadnought is a great dog, but not all that smart.

Weis has coached talented players at Notre Dame, just look at his recruiting classes.

Coach Charlie “The Disaster” Weis recovered from his near loss to Navy by losing to Syracuse at home.  With this loss Weis made history by leading the Fighting Irish to their first loss to an eight-loss team in the history of the program.  Well played.

Notre Dame fans responded by pelting their own players with snowballs. 

Undismayed, Coach Weis stated, “I think that the team has a chance of being pretty darn good next year.”

This is dramatic downplay from the coach who promised that his players in “every game you will have a decided schematic advantage.”

The Trojans will host Notre Dame on 29NOV08 in Los Angeles.

Charlie Weis Makes History At Notre Dame Against Navy

Charlie “The Disaster” Weis has done something no Notre Dame coach has done in the past 44 years: he has turned the annual game against Navy into a true rivalry.

For as long as most of us can remember, the Notre Dame Navy game was almost a buy for Notre Dame.  Last year Notre Dame lost to Navy.  This year Navy had a chance to win on the last play of the game.  Final: Notre Dame 27  Navy 21.

Brady Quinn Involved in Gay Dating Scandal

Former Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn is doing his best impression of Mike “I’m not gay. I’m heterosexual” Piazza.  According to TMZ, Quinn’s lawyer has sent a cease-and-desist letter to a homosexual-dating website demanding that photos of Quinn be removed from the advertisement.

The message: Brady Quinn is not gay.  Evidently Quinn is willing to go so far as to fight gay people to prove his heterosexuality.

While it is normal, and expected, that a professional athlete would not want his image used for advertising without his permission, it is quite another matter to go out of one’s way to deny he is a homosexual.  To quote The Bard, “The Brady doth protest to much, methinks.”

Here are a few suggestions for Quinn:

1. Stop being so homophobic.
2. Keep your shirt on.
3. Stop taking homoerotic photographs.
4. Try to stop dressing like a member of the Village People.
5. Stop sucking at football.

As a side note, Coach Charlie “I looked at myself and saw a disaster” Weis, may want to get in contact with Quinn’s lawyers.  Not to appeal the jury verdict “You Are Fat” from his failed-gastric-bypass lawsuit, but to represent Jimmy Clausen.  If Clausen keeps taking pictures wearing a banana hammock and posing oil with two other guys, it will not be long until the gay rumors start flying.
